Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church and has been active in the United States since 1931. It has been approved by the last 6 Popes, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council. The Ministry is open to all Catholics who faithfully practice their religion, are animated by the desire to participate in the Church’s apostolate through membership in the Legion, and who are prepared to fulfill each and every duty which active membership in the Legion requires.

Two categories of members: Active and Auxiliary

St. MaryThe duties of Active Memberships are:

  1. Attendance of a weekly meeting.
  2. Daily recitation of the Legion Prayer (Catena)
  3. The performance of a substantial assigned apostolic work weekly.
  4. An obligation not to discuss with others, the matters learned at the meeting or in connection with work.


The Duties of Auxiliary Memberships are:

  1. The daily recitation of the rosary for the intentions of the Blessed Mother.
  2. The daily recitation of the Legion prayers found in the Tessera leaflet
